 Brand and model info

I have 2 clarinets that I'm having trouble finding info on the exact models. The first one is a Bb made by Noblet and it has B40645 on it. It is wood with silver plated keys.

The second is an Eb. The bell says "J. W. Pepper Premier Philadilphia" and the lower joint has "Austria" on it. It doesn't have any serial numbers. It is also wood but I'm not sure about the keys. Also I think it is an Albert system.

Thanks for any clues to my mystery!!

The Noblet was made in 1984 based on the serial number. They were decent intermediate level instruments. The value will be dependent on the condition of the instrument but regardless it won't be worth a whole lot as used intermediate level instruments don't command very high prices. Expect it to be worth $150-$250 depending on model if it's in playable condition, $75-$100 if it's not playable.

The JW Pepper clarinet is a stencil. JW Pepper is that name of a music store chain (still in business). Their company history suggests that they did manufacture instruments at some point but given that the clarinet is stamped "Austria" it must have been made for them by someone else. It won't be worth very much, perhaps $50 or so.

I agree with SteveG that the Pepper stencil is probably worth about $50 (the going rate in the eastern USA for no-name or unimportant-name older clarinets, unrestored, is around $45-50). However, if you want the clarinet for playing, it might turn out to be a keeper. Pepper's was/is a good store and I'll bet it wasn't (isn't) selling junk under its own brand name.
