I'm interested in one of those Fobes Eb clarinet extensions for my current vintage eefer (it's a Martin Freres that's surprisingly good), but they are designed for more "standard" modern instruments. So, would someone with an R-13 eefer please measure your tenon length and outside diameter (in mm please) so I can confirm if one of these things will work for me!
Thanks in advance....and any advice the Fobes Extension is appreciated as well (there are already strings to this effect, however, hence my interest)

I'd just email Clark- he was really nice when I got mine and warned me all about the tenon variations on different makes (and sent me some alternates to try in case it was a problem).

Actually, I did email Mr. Fobes -- and he was very responsive and really nice, as you noted. I provided him my measurements, and he suggested that I just see if my bell will fit onto an R-13. Now, if I could only find a local music shop with an R-13 Eb I could fiddle with....
So, I decided to ask the Board if someone with one would be willing to share THEIR measurements so that I can hopefully order a Fobes extension today (or know that I'd need to special order).

Yup, that's the plan if my tenon is "non-standard."
I'm still harboring hope that I can get the extension "off the rack" and not lose badly-needed practicing time in shipping the horn around.
Is there anyone with an Eb R-13 that's willing to measure their tenon for me? I'd be forever grateful...

I am getting the following measurements on my R-13 Eb clarinet:
The tenon length is 17 mm and the outside diameter of the tenon is 23mm.
Hope that someone else will confirm this and hope this helps you!

Thanks BG! Very helpful...my tenon is just a mm shorter and the same diameter, which bodes well for the extension fitting.

FWIW...after some "customization" to fit my vintage Martin Freres eefer (neither the Leblanc nor the Buffet-designed extensions fit perfectly, so some sanding was required -- which Clark Fobes himself was willing to give me some direction on), the extension has successfully deepened and improved the tone throughout all registers. Intonation seems improved as well. And, I might be imagining it, but even the altissimo register seems to speak more easily and more in tune.
The extension is a terrific product that has markedly improved my instrument. I'm so glad that Clark was able to suggest some solutions to make the extension fit my admittedly "off the beaten path" vintage eefer. With a very few simple alterations (that took me only a few minutes), I'm sure that the standard extensions he offers could be made to fit nearly any Eb clarinet.
Working with Clark was a pleasure, and I can attest that he is truly always happy to answer questions about his products. A true professional....

I recently won a Martin Freres eefer on that website. I am also considering the Forbes extension. I am curious what mpc you are using? Mine came with an old wooden one that has a chip in it, but I also have a Bundy. I have seen photos of Freres eefers that had no middle joint, but mine does. Mine also appears to be made of Cocobola (?). I haven't played it yet as it needs a few springs replaced.

My Martin Freres eefer has a one piece body made of grenadilla. I've been playing it with a J+D Hite mouthpiece which works well, but I also have a Vandoren 2RV I play it with occasionally. Both mpcs work well with the horn, I just prefer the darker sound and response of the Hite.
I had to replace the original barrel with a custom one in order to get the pitch anywhere near playable. Along with the new Fobes extension, I'm really pleased with the tone, response, and intonation I've been getting.
Your horn sounds interesting....care to trade some photos? I'm always interested in the history of these older horns that time seems to have forgotten....

I am currently in Korea until Feb. 22. I will post some photos of before and after when I have had it restrored to playing condition. I am quite excited about this clarinet, but the director of our ensemble here in Seoul is thrilled that we will have a Eb player (even if it is me). He is also my teacher and he minored in Eb performance under Tony Gigliotti while at Temple. Mine appears to be nearly a hundred years old and seems to have about 9 keys that I could count in the photo the seller provided. I would like to get the mouthpiece repaired. You wouldn't, perchance, know of a great tech in the Indianapolis area? If I can swing the cost I would like to get the keys replated.
I also have a Freres LaMonte Bb clarinet. It is in fine shape. I wonder if they made A clarinets? It would be nice to have a trio of old French horns.
(Ok, after putting my glasses on, I see that it actually has 14 keys)

Between playing in Seoul and your refurb of a nearly 100 year old horn, it sounds like you're having quite an excellent adventure! I don't know any techs in the Indianapolis area (although I'm sure that others on the Board will), but if you are looking for a tech skilled with older horns and willing to look outside Indy, I certainly have a few suggestions.
In the meantime, I'll try to share a photo of my little eefer (and yes, I do feel a bit like a proud parent).
