 Clarinet Identification - Giora Feidman
Author: Luisthehippy

Hello all! My name is Luis and a new member on the Clarinet Bboard. I've been reading lots of great stuff on this website, and finally decided to become a member. I'm very happy to be a part of this community and looking forward to discussing our favorite instrument! :)

I did have a question about a clarinet that I recently saw on a youtube video. It looks like Giora Feidman is playing a clarinet I haven't seen before... Here's the link:

If you skip to 6:45 to around 7:00 minutes, you can see his clarinet sort of clearly... He's hiding behind a stand for most of it. Does anyone know what it is? The lower joint looks especially odd, with all those keys... Thanks for any responses!

Luis

Looks like a Reform Boehm with low e/f vent.

Interesting. He often plays an all-transparent setup: a Buffet B12, crystal mouthpiece, Luyben ligature and Legere reed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NILbOeDKfSY&feature=related

As kenb said, that looks like a Wurlitzer Reform Boehm, and Feidman is known to play Wurlitzer (his name is listed on the Wurlitzer Neustadt site).

Here are some pictures of a clarinet like his, from our Wurlitzer Clarinets America website:

Thanks for all the responses! I had not heard of the reform Boehm clarinet before. They're pretty expensive new! Maybe I can find one on Ebay... Thanks again everyone!
