i recently bought a crystal mp and it is working amazingly. i am worried about 2 things however. the first is cleaning is there a specific way to clean it or is it the same as a regular mp? and the second is a pad. how do i go about placing a pad on it without damaging the mouthpiece?

Pretend it's a drinking glass and clean it accordingly, with warm water and dish soap. But always hang on to it with both hands while washing it so it doesn't slip and fall in the sink.

Use a mouthpiece patch on it like with any other mouthpiece. To keep the patch from peeling off prematurely, clean the top of the beak with a bit of acetone or rubbing alcohol first and make sure it's completely dry before applying the patch. Of course you'll want to wash the mouthpiece with soap and water following that, before sticking the thing in your mouth.

Don't worry about your crystal, it's more rugged than you think. I've been playing crystals on various sizes of clarinet and sax for at least 20 years, with very few problems.

Just soap and water, just be careful. I would think a teeth pad would stick just fine. ESP eddiesclarinet.com

Of course you could always move to double lip - you wouldn't need a pad then (and the extra weigth of crystal helps bed down the mouthpiece on your lower lip so upper lip has less work to do).

I love a good crystal mouthpiece. Just need to find one that works with legere reeds now so I can have a REALLY stable dependable setup.

I played on a crystal MP eons ago...until I chipped it. Yes, patches will work just fine on a crystal MP. You could use a clear patch to blend in with the MP.

Did you mention which brand of mouthpiece you are playing? For outdoor playing in the summer, I'd like to have a good crystal MP.
