 Robert Durand Bb bass
Author: ozwind

I have recently been offered a Bb bass clarinet by "Robert Durand of Paris". It is pretty run down, but has a wooden body and the keys are OK. The general appearance is "been in the attic for 50 years" and most of the pads are shot.
I can't seem to find anything about this instrument on the web, though I have found a couple of references to metal sopranos by the maker.
Can anyone help with information about this manufacturer or instrument?
Any info will be much appreciated.

How is it that a bass clarinet has a barrel? Or is that something unique to this model of instrument?

Sorry Davyd
I've changed that to wooden body.
And my typing is poor - it is a Robert Durand; not a Rober Durand

Show us a photo, and we'll tell you what it is. Odds are 50-50 it's yet another stencil made by Malerne.

I have now been able to see the instrument.
The case is embossed with gold foil lettering "Michigan High School band".
The serial number of the instrument is T582.
It is in poor condition really and has a crack in the wood of the lower joint from the joint to the F# keyhole.
There is no provision for a support peg; there is none provided and there is no provision for one in it's case. There is a ring to accommodate a neck strap.
I have decided not to pursue this instrument any further with the view to purchase; but it would be good to discover a little more about it.
The markings in the pix are the only visible markings on the instrument. Any help in throwing light on the history of this instrument would be appreciated.
Cheers
