This is almost readable!

How are you doing today?I want private lessons for my daughter,Mary.
Mary is a 13 year old girl, home schooled and she is ready to learn. I would like the
lessons to be at your school if possible or in your home.
Please I want to know your policy with regard to the
fees, cancellations, and make-up lessons. Also, get back to me with the
total fees for three months worth of lessons(one-hour lesson in a week)starting
from November 9. Looking forward to hearing from you.

My best regards,

Douglas.

Hate to think of someone who would fall for that and bite. They are getting better with the language thing though!

Just curious but how would this scam be intended to work? If you responded would they ask you to provide your bank account number so they could direct deposit the payment or something to that effect?

Would be extra payment, so if I said $500 total, he would send something like $900, and ask for change.

I see. So they'd ask for change and hope you wouldn't find out that their check was bad until you had already sent them a check for the difference.

Yup, probably a counterfeit check, forged, stolen, etc.

Asking personal questions about the teacher, giving more background info on the student, etc are more realistic.

And a real phone number should be included too......

Wow! That's a good one! I thankfully saved my friend from a scammer once. He was set to take a 5 grand check and send back change int he amount of 3 grand of it for something he was selling and was going to wait for the "shipper" to arrive to pick it up. I told him about the scams, he swore it was legit, but I think he did some research and realized giving change shouldn't be necessary.

Wouldn't hurt to see if it's someone legit, however pretty much any legit sale, especially something where you'd have to meet someone weekly, couldn't pay the exact amount, WHEN the service is provided. Otherwise it's fishy...

I avoid this problem by asking for an in-person interview.

Interesting article Peter-
er... what nationality is North European? and what do they look like?

Sounds like this guy deserved to get scammed...

"After I had completed the first transaction, I got a very emotionally charged phone call from “James” who sounded like an Asian with his “head stuck in a bucket.” (Asian, Nigerian – who could tell the difference on the phone)? "

Yes- definitely deserved to get scammed!

Well, well, well. Guess who got this same e-mail in her box at the university today?

When I read it, I knew something was up. Then, I remembered seeing this discussion here. The "TO" line says "Undisclosed Recipients" and I received a BCC.

In this e-mail, however, he didn't say what instrument "Mary" wants to play:

Here is one from my inbox earlier this week. Apparently her daughter can easily travel "anywhere in the country" for her music lessons:

Hello,
I am Mrs Ashlley Jeffrey reside in Belfast,Northern Ireland during my search on the internet for a Clarinet Music Tutor that can teach my Lovely Daugther ( Ms Sandra Jeffrey ) Music Lessons such as Clarinet, saxophone or Flute and I found your email from the internet search engine website.

I am writing to request the area of Music Lesson you are specialized on so that we can make a plan for the Lesson arrangement for my daughter.

My Daugther will be coming to the United States of America by early this month (April) for the period of three (3) Months and She is just 15years Old with little knowledge of basis of Music and I want you to help me teach her the basic foundation of Music during her stay in the United States of America from the beginner to intermediate.

Please, kindly get back to me with your charges per week in order for me to arrange for her payment before She travels down to the United States of America for the Lessons and I would also like to know if she might need any Text Book you will recommend for her as a Learner so that she will be reading/practising privately at home after the lesson during her stay in the United States of America.

Please Advise back on;

(1). Your charges for an hour twice a week for three Months?
(2). The Day and time you will be available to teach her During the week?
(3). Fullname :
(4). Lesson Address:
(5). Telephone number :

I will be looking forward to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

Mrs Ashlley Jeffrey

Apparently not all the scammers are all that much better now, if the grossly unidiomatic writing in the missive from "Mrs Ashlley Jeffrey" is any indication.
