Hello,

I am new to the Clarinet world. I own a pawn shop in Ohio and need some expertise.

I recently purchased:

Bundy Resonite Selmer, Serial # 961416
Norblet - Selmer, C85,Bb, #32210
Vito Reso-tone 7212 #E04670

How do I determine if one is better than the other ( other than Ebay), worth, and year the Clarinet was made?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Dena

Dena,

The Noblet is the best of the bunch. Noblet was the intermediate line for Leblanc for a long time. The serial number of 961416 means that it was manufactured in 1970.

The Vito and the Bundy are both student clarinets. I haven't seen any serial number list for these clarinets but I'm not sure age is much of a factor with student instruments.

As for value, the condition will be the biggest determining factor. If they are in good playing condition the Bundy and Vito may be worth ~$100 and the Noblet ~$150-$400 depending on the model.

Thank you so much Steve! You can tell I am quite naive on this subject!

As for the Norblet, the signatures in the silver mouthpiece is inscribed with D.Bonade, on the actual mouth piece, Selmer, C85, 120 made in France is shown. The serial number is 32210.

Have any ideas about the model?

Much appreciated,

Dena

Dena,

Your shop is literally about 10 minutes from my studio. I'm in Lyndhurst.

Contact me via the email address in my profile if you'd like me to help determine value/condition for you, on these and any other clarinets or saxophones.

Oops. Looks like I mixed up the serial numbers. A Noblet with a serial number of 32210 would have been manufactured in ~1963. At this time there were 3 models of Noblet clarinets being made IIRC, the model 27, model 40, and the model 45. Unfortunately I haven't owned a Noblet clarinet before so I'm not sure what markings would be on it to designate the model. Later on Noblet started incorporating the model number into the logo but I don't think this started until the 1970's. Perhaps someone else can help you with this.

The mouthpiece you have is a fairly standard mass-produced model. You can buy a new one of that model for $100. A used one in good condition with no wear on the facing might be worth half of that at best. The Bonade ligature is another mass produced part. They sell for $15-$20 new so a used one is worth a couple of dollars at most.
