I saw many Evette clarinets for sale.It is very cheap too. They also said that "sponsored by buffet".Most of them are from 50s to 70s,also said made in France.I t looks so nice!I have an 1956 R13.Is that Evette are similar to R13?
Thanks.

No. the Evette is the student and or intermediate line from that time with Buffet. The R13 is the pro instrument.

Lee Gibson reviewed Evettes some years ago (maybe 20) in The Clarinet. He found very little difference between them and an R13, as I recall. .

That would depend on the model. Some do not have the polycylindrical bore or undercutting of toneholes, IIRC.
The Evette & Schaeffer Master Model was the top of the line, and closest in quality to the R13. I had a late 1960s Evette Master Model (one step below the above mentioned one), and the keywork was not nearly on par with an R13, it had some tuning issues, and was just not of the same quality as the R13 I had, which was a few years newer..

remember the "made in france" in many cases should also mean "made by Malerne".
Many of the Evette and E&S clarinets were made by Malerne as identified by the letter prefix - except the K series which were Buffet made. The Malernes are easily identified by keywork.
Thus I wouldn't necessarily identify any Evette or E&S as an R13 equivalent as they could have been made by two wholly separate companies.

Mine (plastic) is nowhere near an R13 quality-wise. I have a Yamaha 20 that is a much better instrument.

The plastic Evettes (and some wooden ones) that say 'Made in W.Germany' above the thumbrest were made by Schreiber for Buffet and are what became the B12 (and E11). In the UK there was a transitional period in the mid '80s where the plastic Evette became the B&H Regent II and then the Buffet B12.
