from beginner to pro I am curious to know in what venues you all play in......
I am a(very) amateur clarinet player. Just a little hobby doing something ive loved since I was little.
I play in a clarinet ensemble called the West Wynd Clarinet Ensemble made up of 5 players. (all Bb's - we need a bass)
And a community band called the Atlantic Wind Symphony (in South Lancaster Mass) made up of 60 + wind players.
Ive been taking lessons for 3 1/2 years and occassionally do a solo or duet at informal performances at my teachers house. Just did the 3rd movement of the Mozart on Monday.
Where do you all do your clarinetting??

I'm 73, and I never played the clarinet until about 3 years ago when I was looking for some musical instrument to play. Since I really liked the clarinet sound, I thought, "hmmm, that ought to be one of the easier ones...".
How wrong I was, but I'm still so glad I started. It's now become almost a passion for me. I spend at least 1-1/2 to 2 hours per day practicing.
I am currently 2nd clarinet in the local town band. I also have been invited to play in a church ensemble, but I just don't think so right now (believe it or not, retired people have a lot of other things to do, too. Don't see how I ever worked and got anything else done!).
I will say this: If it were not for this BB and some of the really nice folks here, I probably would've given it up with frustration. But due to the BB people, I have learned so much that has kept me interested and passionate.

Beloit/Janesville (WI) Symphony Orchestra, sub list for Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Green Bay Symphomy Orchestra, Middleton Community Orchestra (soprano & bass clarinets)
Capitol City Band, Madison Municipal Band, Madison Wind Ensemble, Retro Swing Band (clarinets, saxophones)
Max Draxler Bavarian Brass Band
And freqently, a woodwind trio--clarinet, oboe & bassoon--and any theatre gig that may present itself (clarinets, saxophones & flute)

Community groups in the Rochester, NY area:
Brighton Symphony Orchestra (Clarinet II/utility)
Brockport Chamber Orchestra (Co-Principal Clarinet)
Greece Symphony Orchestra (Clarinet II/utility)
I play clarinets from Eb soprano to Bb bass (I even owned an alto clarinet that I played in the Wind Ensemble in college during my senior year before moving to bass during my 5th year); I can double on (in order of proficiency) flute, piccolo, alto sax. Yes, I really do consider myself a better flute player than sax player. I tried oboe for a little bit, but I kept closing off the reed and didn't have a good oboe to play on.
I also take clarinet lessons at the Eastman Community Music School with the 3rd clarinet/bass clarinet player of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

In addition to the more traditional classical and contemporary settings, I play in a 5-piece metal band, a handful of folk groups, a Zappa cover band, shows in galleries, guerilla-style in random public places, occasional crazy-loud noise ensembles, at parties, and whatever else comes along.

Mostly I play in my Balkan band, Orkestar Bez Ime (http://www.rogaria.com). We do shows monthly at a coffee/wine bar, various ethnic festivals, folk dance events, and various other venues. We just won a big fellowship, in fact!
I also play with a chamber group of clarinet, violin, and free-bass accordion. We play string quartets, baroque trio sonatas, and other classical stuff. We are all in the other band, so sometimes we put our folk hats on and play that stuff too. We play for weddings, at coffee shops, libraries, and wherever we get hired.
I'd like to get back in to orchestral playing but all of the community groups (many of which are quite good) in my area are full up on clarinets!

I've been a clarinet player for nearly 40 years and majored in clarinet and music ed. in college. Continued to play during my master degree studies (in another field of education) in that school's wind ensemble. I've played whenever and wherever opportunities have opened up over the years.
Currently, I play in a band at the university where I work and I play in the local community band. I teach middle school and high school clarinetists on the side and every year at Christmas, I play in at least one cantata or musical.
Ideally, I would love to play in a clarinet quartet and perform in diffetent venues.

I just finished up my postgrad program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I play in a newly formed contemporary music ensemble called After Everything and am on the sub list for a few of the regional Bay Area orchestras. Before coming to Northern California, I was a Marine Bandsman assigned to Marine Band San Diego.

I'm just an old engineer that loves playing clarinet/sax/flute/etc. Almost went to music school at Indiana, but decided on engineering at Purdue. Currently playing in
Moore County Concert Band (70 piece wind ensemble)
Sandhills Community College Jazz Band (18 piece big band)
Eddie Barrett Legacy Orchestra (big band)
Swingeroos (7 piece group, 3 horns)
American Heritage Band (a small ompha band)
Pit orchestras for local productions
I hadn't played for almost 40 years and then started up again about 8 years go. I'm having a ball.

Mostly out of sight and out of earshot. Seriously, I took up the clarinet five or so years ago as a retirement project. I've since switched to saxophone, but the clarinet got me started with playing in community bands (two now) and a trio with my sax teacher and another student. I can't say enough good things about community bands, specially for people like myself who are still very much at the lower end of the learning curve.

I live in the East Bay area between Oakland and Sacramento. I have a little trad jazz band (dixieland) called Carol's Jazz Cats. We play at retirement homes and public functions. We play once a month at Smokin Oakies Bar-B-Que Pit, and we were asked to play as part of a summer jazz series, and will play Sunday at the Sardine Can. I also do my alto saxophone impersonation (!) in a big band group for the SIRS club once a month, doing all the 40's songs. I love those. I play second alto. I am retired so have more time these days, and was in New Orleans for their second Trad Jazz Camp first week in June. What a blast that was. I cannot imagine life without the clarinet and sax.I also belong to three Northern California Trad Jazz Clubs, which all meet once a month, and gives me a chance to meet lots of people and join in the jam sets.
Clarinets rule!

To answer Tony:
In my case our community band is a band comprised of volunteer musicians of varying levels of experience and talent. The level of band music we play generally filters out inexperienced players. We rehearse two hours per week and give concerts in varying venues in our city and our region.
A community band is also known as a civic band, a regional band, the town band, etc.

I majored in clarinet, but spent most of my career playing tenor sax in pop bands. In my old age, clarinet opportinities have arrived again. My current clarinet venues:
"My Son the Doctor" - Jewish, Gypsy & Balkan folk music. Primarily at art galleries, coffee shops, and the like.
"Pack of Luckies" - Small swing trio (also some country & western) with a guitar/vocal and a stand-up bass. This group accounts for about 90% of my A-clarinet use.
"Original Elbe Musikanten" - 13-piece German band playing mostly Oktoberfest-related events in September & October of each year.
"Gypsy Roots" - A gypsy-jazz (Django Reinhardt) type outfit. I occasionally fill in for their excellent violinist. Particularly fun since I study guitar with one of the band members and the gigs give me a great opportunity to watch him in action.
"Richmond Pops Band" - high quality amateur community band.
"Lee Playhouse" - Just finished playing clarinet and bass clarinet in the pit for "Oliver" in this MWR facility at a local Army base.
"Barksdale Theatre" - currently in the pit for "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" playing clarinet, bass clarinet, alto & bari saxes.
I'm lucky to be a working clarinetist in my area. Can't figure out exactly how it happened, but am trying to keep it from stopping!

A retread after fifteen years of not playing started playing in my church orchestra. Mow relocated to another town I play in the tristate Community Orchestra, the Troy University Dothan community Band and the instrumental ensemble at my new church.
