 Digital scores to modern music?
Author: drews1949

Does anyone know where I can find/buy digital scores to modern music? I'm looking for things from Stravinsky, Bartok, Shostakovich, all the way up to Stockhausen and Corigliano. Obviously, these things are copyrighted, but I have print scores of them, and, in our modern technilogical age, it would seem that digital scores would be available for purchase. Nevertheless, I can't find anything. Ideas?

Have you found anything in IMSLP that's of any use? They haven't got Shostakovich but do have some Bartok and Stravinsky.

Bartok: http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Bart%C3%B3k,_B%C3%A9la
Stravinsky: http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Stravinsky,_Igor

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

Both G. Schirmer and Boosey & Hawkes offer such a service, but it may only be available to professional orchestras.

It might be worth a visit to their websites, though...

For the most part, unfortunately, publishing business models have yet to catch up with our modern technological age.

No, IMSLP is pretty useless in this regard. Although a fantastic resource in most cases, even if I wanted to try and download a copyrighted piece, the site wouldn't let me.

There are other sites out there similar to IMSLP from which you can get PDFs of more recent material. I got a full score for "Carmina burana" and a vocal score for "Sweeney Todd" from one of them. But I don't think we're allowed to post links to such sites.

Here are a couple of sites from which I've purchased digital sheet music from 20th century composers (or at least one, Rudolf Jettel):

http://www.music2print.at

(They have mostly Austrian composers, being an Austrian publisher)

http://www.freehandmusic.com

(They have a bunch of stuff)
