so i have to play an exerpt from a solo for my seating audition, about how long would an exerpt be?

you should probably pick a piece, or an etude, that you think displays your strongest points. if no more information than "an excerpt from a solo" is given, then they'll most likely stop you after they've heard enough.

they said either an exerpt or an etude but i think an etude would be more effective, would the allstate audition pieces out of the advance ruband volume 2 book be considered an etude?

It could be, I'm not familiar with that book.. Have you started any Rose etudes? Either book, the 32 etudes, or the 40 etudes, would be a fantastic item to start working on if you already haven't; lots of great music in them!

I'm assuming it's an orchestra camp, in which case you could play a well-known orchestral clarinet solo such as the solo in Tchaikovsky 4 Scherzo to demonstrate technique and articulation, the solo in Tchaikovsky 5 to demonstrate phrasing and tone quality; but Rose would probably work better anyway.
