 Greek Solos or Settings?

Any suggestions on pieces written by Greek composers or pieces based on traditional Greek music for clarinet and piano or clarinet alone?

Thanks, Bb

I realize how ironic this question is considering my user name. -Haha!

Shameless plug: This piece is not for clarinet alone or for clarinet and piano, sorry, but I did write a Greek piece for wind band and percussion:

Hecate, Queen of the Night requires flute, oboe, B-flat clarinet, horn, bassoon, timpani and marimbas. It begins with a short introduction in 3/4 followed by an allegro Macedonian dance in 7/8. Your computer can play back an audio of the score and/or print it out free of charge.

(I tried posting a clickable link directly to the score, but for some reason it's getting re-routed to the Sibelius Music main home page. Happens on that site sometimes. Best way to get to the music is to go to the link under my signature and click on the link to the score from there.)

To hear the audio, click on the "Scorch Plug-In" box above the score.

Try googling "greek clarinet piano" without the quotes. The first two pages identified Camillieri's "Four Greek Songs" and Dinos Constantinides, who has written a piece called "Impressions" for clarinet and piano.

You could also go to <www.luybenmusic.com> and browse their clarinet and piano lists for Greek names. There you will also find Grebentschikow, "Three Greek Dances."

Another work is Andreas Makris, "Intrigues." This is a piano reduction of a work for clarinet and wind ensemble. For at least a few years, Colorado State University sponsored a Makris Clarinet Competition and this was one of the works competitors had to perform. As part of the prize, the winner performed this piece with their band. With a quick search of the CSU website, however, the most recent reference I can find is an archived announcement from 2003. Makris died in 2005.

Best regards,
jnk

"Ritual" by Katherine Hoover for clarinet and piano is influenced by Greek Folk music. (At least it says so in the score.)
