 Interlochen Arts Academy

Hello. I'm a high school freshman right now and I've been looking into the Interlochen Arts Academy a lot for the past few weeks. I know for sure that I want to go into music. While I'm in high school, I want to get the best education and exposure possible, and Interlochen looks amazing to me. It's a little too short of a notice for my parents to consider letting me go next year, but they might the years after that, but only if I can get a scholarship.

I was wondering if anyone here could tell me anything about Interlochen. What's it like there? Is it as great as it seems online? Is it difficult to get a large scholarship?

I am an Interlochen alumnus. I just recently graduated from there. It is an incredible school. You couldn't ask for a better clarinet teacher either. Deborah Chodacki is an incredible teacher and a fantastic person. I love her very much and I learned a great deal from her.

As far as scholarship goes, for me they made it possible. I am sure they will do the same for you. They are very good about money.

The school is fantastic. A great environment and lots of talented and driven individuals. You will love it there if music is what you want to do. It was one of the best times of my life and really shaped me as a player and person. You won't regret it!

email me if you have any more questions!

Great school. Great location. 40 below and snow up to your waist in the winter.

It's the perfect place to practice 24/7. If that's you, grab it.

I am a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy this year. I can tell you that going there is easily one of the best choices I have ever made in my life. The school and the environment is absolutely ideal for someone who wants to further their art. Ms. Chodacki is also one the most caring and comforting teachers you will ever find and she is just fantastic. The winters are tough, but it is fun getting through them. Making friends at a school like Interlochen is also amazing because you relate so much to each other and it really makes for some great friendships. Overall, Interlochen is absolutely fantastic and I STRONGLY recommend it. Its awesome!

Went there for 4 years, on a full scholarship It was a blast. Education is the best; about 8 students per class. Lots of private attention from the instructors. 1971-75. I was very very lucky to go for 4 years.

If you get a scholarship be sure to write a thank you note. Interlochen works hard finding people to back students.

Be ready to work hard - very hard and you should have a great chance to get into the better music colleges. There will be tours, fun nature trips, a very open type of school. If you want to do something different, other than your major, most likely you can do other types of art studies. I played around with metal work and went on camping trips and cross country skiing trips. Take advantage of all of the activities. If I were you I'd also pick up piano. It will make college a lot easier.

Some of the people I went to school with are sitting in major orchestras.

Good luck if you decide to go. Be well prepared for your audition. Know your scales, major, minor, up to 4 sharps and flats, and master your solo piece. Also practice sight reading.

I remember my tutor telling me about interlochen when I was in 8th grade, and me laughing because i could never afford that type of school.
Now however im desperately trying to figure out a way to be able to attend such an amazing school. it looks like the only way will be scholarship tho:/ especialy since i would have to move over 10 states away
now that you bring this topic up im gonna make one of my questions hope u dont mind:P

My parents live near Interlochen. Wish I had gotten into music when I was young. I like going to some of the concerts in the summer. There is a lot of good mountain biking there as well.

The school is great about money. I had a very generous scholarship that made it possible for me. I had some friends who were paying less than $5000 a year. If you have the talent and the financial need, you will get the money.
