 Contacting Howarth of London
Author: Iceland clarinet

I need a general service for my clarinet and some minor repair for the crows foot mechanism.

I have planned a trip to London with my mother.

I contacted Howarth on Friday 4th of March and got a reply 11th March. I immediately answered asking if my timeline would work and now today they haven't answered again.

I need a reply so I could look somewhere else if this won't work.

The repair situation here in Iceland is not good. We have only one that work now just I don't know maybe 20% repairing and only minor/emergency repairs.

Guys do you know if it is normal for Howarth to take about week to answer each email and even also with the second one on the same subject ?

You could always try again or perhaps go "old school" and call them

My teenaged daughter tells me that "nobody uses telephones any more".

Maybe Chris P. will chime in, doesn't he work at Howarth's?

I haven't worked for Howarth since last April.

Probably best to call Donny, you would really need to book your instrument in ASAP

From what I understand, they are on facebook and sending a facebook message may help too. If it's really an emergency, personally, I would exhaust EVERY contact option there is. Including facebook messaging/wall posts, calling, emailing, etc. You've tried the emailing, time to try something else (or two or three things if available)

I have a friend who tells me his kids get mad if he leaves them a voice mail, because NOBODY does that anymore.

I have been dealing with Andrew Harper a clarinet specialist at Howarth in handing my products at Howarth - he may be of some help.

You could also try Dawkes Music at Maidenhead, not too far out from London. They have several repairers on their staff and also claim to offer a "timed" service if you book it in i.e. take it in one day and possibly collect the next (or possibly next +1) day.
They have website and it also lists phone number 44 (0)1628 630800.
They are probably a bit less expensive than Howarths too.

I would still leave telephone. Adolescent that think the use of telephone is antiquated will find out the moment they enter into the workforce about how vital it is to establish live communication in order to address issues.

Howarth to me is more responsive via phone than by email. I use a combination of phone and email to contact them last time. Facebook wise I see it as an advertisement avenue, not a channel of private communication.

Dawkes in Maidenhead is very good, and in easy reach of London (from Paddington Station), then about 20 minutes walk from Maidenhead station. They will do on-the-spot minor repairs, but more extensive work has to be booked in, and in my experience, usually there is a month or two wait from when you first contact them to when they can do the job. They do an excellent job. I don't know how their prices compare with Howarth's. You can drop the instrument off the working day before the booked date, and pick it up the day after. I have used this service several times & have never been let down.
