 Music of Raymond Scott

I have always been interested in exploring different options for programming recitals, and a couple years ago I put together a recital of music by the composer Raymond Scott with some of my colleagues. It was such a fun performance, and we recently released a CD "Quintette 7 Plays the Music of Raymond Scott." We used transcriptions by Les Deutch that are available through the Raymond Scott archives website, and added some of our own touches (like additional percussion, and tuba in place of the bass). I highly recommend the transcriptions, but they are not as easy as they sound!

There are some tracks available online at:

I would love to hear from some fellow Raymond Scott fans!!

Hi Kristen,

I loved the cuts and will probably purchase your cd. I discovered the music of Raymond Scott a while back on Don Byron's wonderful album 'Bug Music', which contains a half dozen of his compositions. Great stuff.

Love Raymond Scott! In addition to his jazz music, his weird electronic pieces are awesome too. He was way ahead of his time. Your versions are very nice!

Kristen,
I'm a Raymond Scott fan, as well, and coincidentally, even before you posted to the BB, I was looking at clarinetcache.com and there were two charming videos of the Quintette at West Point, each accompanied by your group's performances of Scott's music. Lovely job.

Thanks!

If you would like a CD you can write in and ask for one. The address can be found on the West Point Band's website, www.westpointband.com. If you are interested in obtaining parts to this music, let me know and I can put you in touch with the arranger.
