 Lifton Clarinet Case

I have a Lifton clarinet case and I love it dearly. It is finally wearing out and I'm wondering if there is a way to find another one. Google did not help.

It is a Lifton - known more for the older guitar and string cases. It is a very old case, the old wooden construction with the black exterior, plush blue interior. Two barrel slots and in the French style. The interior tag says, Lifton, Built like a Fortress, Made in the USA. It also has the Buffet ribbon in the lid. So, perhaps Lifton built cases for Buffet? I'm not sure.

Here's a link to a similar interior tag.

Lifton made the French style cases for Buffet in the 1960s.
Not quite as small as a pouchette style, but smaller than the attache style.
Well -made.....featured 2 barrel slots that were perpendicular to the plane of the instrument axis. Bell slot was separate from the lower joint.

The Lifton double case was great, and was prefered by the pros. Instead of today's gig bags, they were commonly covered with canvas and then placed in a briefcase type bag, carried like a business person.

Allan, thanks. Yes, that is the one. The wood and latches are still holding up, but the material lining is starting to break down in the lower part. If I could have it "reupholstered" it would be fine, but I don't know of anyone who does that kind of work on instrument cases. It is the perfect size and very sturdy. The original handle was gone when I bought it for $5.00. Other than that, it is all original. I would love to have another one and would love to have a double case as well. Any chance of me ever finding one?

Handles are easily replaced. Ferrees tools sells them, but sometimes luggage repair shops and cobblers also service these items, as do some instrument repair shops, esp. the ones that rent horns to school programs or bands. I replaced the handle on a 1962 Lifton Buffet case before I sold the instrument (with the case).

I have seen a few Liftons for sale on the innominate auction site, but rarely.

To change the lining, get velvet from Walmart and spray adhesive from a crafts store. Rip out the old lining, spray the wooden supports, and tease the new fabric in place.......easy.
Search this site for "make your own case" for more detailed instructions.

Oh, so that's the old case my '60s Buffet Eb came in - black 'leather' covered, curved sides and blue lining with the ribbon in the lid cushion saying something like 'The sweetest clarinets ever made'.
