 A bright star: Anna Hashimoto

Dear clarinet friends:

Today I purchased the new CD by the 21-year old clarinetist, Anna Hashimoto, produced on the Meridian label. Briefly, from her bio on www.annahashimoto.com:

Anna Hashimoto made her Barbican Hall debut in December 2004 at the age of fifteen, playing Weber’s Concertino with the English Chamber Orchestra. She has since been invited regularly as a soloist with the orchestra, most recently under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy. She won the 1st International Clarinet Competition in Kortrijk, the 7th International Clarinet Competition in Carlino, the Japan Clarinet Society’s ‘Young Clarinettists Competition’ where she was also awarded all three special prizes, and was a prizewinner and the youngest competitor of the Japan Clarinet Competition.

Anna was born in Japan in 1989 and moved to London six months later. She studied at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music with Charles Hine, and at the Purcell School, and is now at the Royal Academy of Music under a full Associated Board Scholarship and as a Leverhulme Scholar, where she continues to study with Michael Collins.

What a wonderful addition to the ranks of international soloists she is. The CD is a goldmine and features:

Concert Fantasy on Verdi's La Traviata by Donato Lovreglio (revision by Alamiro Giampieri)
Le Tombeau de Ravel by Arthur Benjamin
Debussy Premiere Rhapsodie
Poulenc Sonata
Saint-Saens Sonata
Debussy Petite Piece
Ernesto Cavallini's Carnevale di Venezia for Eb clarinet

Check her out. She's really wonderful.

George Stalle

Anna plays on English clarinets, the Peter Eaton International model with a medium bore (about 14.8mm)
