I am almost ready to make the leap but have some questions of you guys.
Are the bass clarinet and Bb clarinet versions EXACTLY the same price?
Are there different "finishes" out there? On Peter's website it looks silver and back and yet Muncy's image seems to be 100% gunmetal.
Are the individual rails "curved," so that reed contact is only made at the extreme ends of each rail?
What is the length of the rails for Bb? MM or inches is fine.
and finally ..................
Have any of you over tightened one? Just to put this in context I had done this to a Brancher once (four thin wires fused to a single metal plate. One wire disengaged from the plate with a "POP."

I have three of these, and they look like the pictures on Peter Spriggs' website, silver-ish and black. They do not look like on picture on the
Muncy site. That may just be a black and white photo, or taken with bad
lighting or something.
The rails on the Bb are just a hair under 1" in length. Yes they are
curved so only the ends touch.
I'm pretty sure the bass ligature is the same price as the Bb.
I've never overtightened one but they do get bent easily if you drop
them (and especially if you step on them!)

Hi Paul,
I love Spriggs' ligature. I agree with Susieray's comments above...the two rails are hinged independently of each other and hold the reed exceptionally well.
It is not my experience that ONLY the ends of the rails touch. I do believe this is the highest evolution of the Bonade design that I have played.
The only reason it is not my primary ligature any longer is that I deliver a lot of overtones already...the reed vibrates so freely with the Spriggs that it exacerbates the "brightness" in my sound.

^That has also been my problem as well. It does exactly what Spriggs wanted it to do. Unfortunately, being a player with a brighter sound already, it's too bright. I'm actually going to sell mine :(.

They are great ligatures that are very responsive. They produce a clear resonant tone. I have found it best to keep nice and relaxed and use a reed that has a bit more wood.
