Does anyone have a .pdf of the Bach Cello Suites transcribed for bass clarinet that they could email me?

I really just the prelude but if you have the whole thing I'll take it too.

basilbouras@my.unt.edu

Thank you so much!

Alea has a great transcription thats $18. You need a Low C bass clarinet to play it though. http://www.bassclarinet.org/alea/ALEA1001.html
I think most people will just say to learn bass clef and play from the original and after a while start the transcription part from C to Bb. For the double stops, just experiment and play whichever ones seem to be in best taste or playing them as grace notes.

I have one (off the Mutopia Project) and transposed it for the range of a down-to-low-Eb bass. Means I sacrificed the original key and got three versions in different keys now, from rather easy to rather-not-so-easy.

You can download a .zip with three PDFs at http://www.hochstrasser.org/wiki/files/BWV1007forClarinet.zip.

Hopefully pdf is attached, but it took less than a minute to:

Go to mutopia as Ben suggested
www.mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/make-table.cgi?searchingfor=bach+cello

right click the midi file (this one is a zip file) and save onto computer

open the zip file and save the cello file onto computer

open the midi with notation software (I use MIDI illustrator maestro)

using the software, change clef to treble and up all notes by an octave (at this point the software makes it easy to transpose to any key to get it into range of your instrument)

Print to pdf using cute pdf (other free pdf creators are available)

There is free sheet music available, but there are many free midi files that open as sheet music with the right software

I've always played them, and taught them, from the cello part and didn't worry about transposing it. Unless you have perfect pitch it won't matter if you're a step to low, no one should really care. That way you get to play it as Bach wrote it, note wise anyway. I have some recordings of a live performance on my website if you're interested to hear how I played them. I'm not sure I have that mov't though. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

Back in the 60s, I purchased a copy of Classical Studies for Clarinet by Himie Voxman (published by Rubank). It's still available for about $16, and there's now a CD that comes with it. It has many (or all?) of Bach's cello suites, and much more. Although Voxman transcribed them with the B-flat soprano clarinet in mind, I see no reason why they couldn't be played on a bass.

Bach 21 Pezze per Clarinetto

Transcribed by Giamperi and published by Ricordi (e.r. 2621)

The first one in the book is the one you are looking for.
These are not specifically for Bass so they are written to low E. Movements are transcribed from various Bach violin and cello works.

The Schirmer edition of all six suites is only about $11, although one can argue about the bowing or articulation as compared to the Mary Magdeline Bach manuscript. This manuscript is available for free at IMSLP but it is not as easy to read from.

It was noted that about 94 editions of this have been published. The original manuscript seems to have the best bowing or articulation especially the Prelude from the first suite, for a cellist. There are possibly 100 noted errors in the manuscript, many of them minor. There does not seem to be a manuscript in Bach's hand but the copy in his wife's hand should be close enough.

Casals has been said to have discovered these pieces. Actually, what he did was to find a copy in a music store in Spain. He practiced them for more than 10 years before playing them in public. The first and third seem to be the most accessible and the fifth and sixth the least accessible. However, try the Sarabande from the fifth in six or slow three as it may suit the bass clarinet well, being dark and moody. Good luck!!

Just found these:
http://abel.hive.no/trumpet/bach/cellosuite/

all six of the cello suites with transcriptions for viola and violin.

One could scan a part into Finale and transpose it.

CLASSICS FOR CLARINET
SIX SUITES FOR VIOLONCELLO
transcribed by Trent Kynaston
advance music order no. 08100

I practice these regularly, they are excellent, but in treble clef.
THe Voxman and Giampieri studies mentioned earlier are great also.
