 Presents!

Christmas has been good to me thus far. I acquired an almost new Vandoren M13 Profile 88 Series 13 mouthpiece (as in used a couple times before the owner decided he liked the B45 better). So, I snagged it for $50 from the auction site. I like it better than my 5RV and my teacher agrees it's a better fit for me.

Who out there know what good music stuff they're getting (or have already gotten) for this holiday season? The M13 was a present to me from me (but unfortunately, I'm now broke for the rest of the month). My brother and his girlfriend hit up my WWBW wishlist. So, I'm getting reeds (Bb and Bass), and a peg for my bass from them.

Mouthpiece refacing equipment (sandpaper, new glass, micrometer) for me.

Perhaps a Bay ligature in Gold plate (have 2 in silver).

Sandpaper and good micrometers are pretty expensive, so I doubt I'll get much else!

Loads of reeds! Vandoren Blue Box 4's for the soprano and Rico Reserve Classic 3.5's for the Bass... Probably the Luyben lig, and a new Rico Humidified reed case!

... Doesn't light a candle to a bit later in December, when I pick out my new Buffet A Clarinet! (Perhaps the R13, Festival, or Vintage)

Glad to hear about your good spirits!

You might try a Kaspar ligature instead http://www.muncywinds.com/index.php/clarinet/ligatures-caps/kaspar.html. Several good players are using them, including Mark Nuccio.

Forestone reeds for my soprano clarinets and my alto and tenor saxes.

With regards to ligatures, I have two of the Muncey Kaspar ligatures--one brass and one silver--and have tried them extensively on my Chicago Kaspar mouthpiece. They both played with about the same response and tone quality--which was "OK"--however, I much prefer my Vandoran Optimums with the parallel rail inserts. I was always a fan of the old inverted Bonades and perhaps this is my prejudice showing. Vandy Opts play like the old Bonades but without the constant need for readjustment. They hold their shape quite well--unless stepped upon, of course.........

The Luyben was just for experiments to see if it'll do the trick. If not, I still have a darn good Rovner Evo-5 in my case! Perhaps sometime in the near future, I'll check out the new Kaspars... Still very excited for the A clarinet, though! I'll be doing Peter and the Wolf on in next month!

Ah, money. I need money to get my boyfriend his present, so that will probably happen next month when I get paid (I've already told him this). His stick bag has a giant hole in it, so I'm going to get him a new one. Can't be losing sticks and mallets and brushes and whatever else he has in there.

I loved to get music stuff as present when I was young. But now I know what I like best and decided it on my own so I haven't wished for music present(other than cd's) for over 10 years at least.

I treated myself.......sent my C, which had many leaks and in poor adjustment to Morrie Backun for overhaul. Not cheap, $600 plus the valentino pads and shipping, but does it play great now! He added a barrel and bell to try that I ended up sending back to him as it didn't add much.

We all are aware of Morrie's barrels and bells, and his clarinets, but first of all he's a brilliant and masterful technician.

Maybe he should offer gift certificates, for our spouses to get for us.

I'm going to get a B45 from Craigslist as a gift from my wife, and a reed case from brother-in-law...

Very cool clarinet Christmas!

Best wishes to all of you here.

This is a genuine signature.

I got a nice vito bass clarinet from good ole' Ma & Pa. I absolutely love it. It's a great break from the day-to-day soprano madness. ;)
