 Medir reeds

Has anybody else tried these Spanish reeds?

<www.medir.cat>

I can highly recommend them! To my opinion they are similar to V12 only more consistant. I have played them for more than 6 month now and I can perform on up to 6-8 reeds out of a box of 10. Quite amazing! The strength scale is similar to V12 from 3 1/2- 4 1/2.

Thanks for this. I've just ordered a couple of boxes (different strengths) and I'm anxious to see how they play for me on my mouthpiece and instrument.

BTW, is there anyone in the U.S. who distributes these reeds? I ordered directly from the website.

I usually order directly from the website too. Within Europe it usually takes 3-4 days. It shouldn't take more than a week to the US.

Obviously I can only speak for myself but I do believe that these reeds have a future.
Karl, when you have tried them out please post a report! I'm really curious what you and others think of them!

I play a Viotto B40H (an interpretation of B40) normally 3 1/2 sometimes 4 if that's a clue what strength to order yourself.

Here are a few thoughts,

I wasn't blown away by these reeds like I was with the Leuthners. I had five to try. Three 3.5 and two 4. The 3.5 strength felt consistent but on all three reeds the tone felt too "woody" or "reedy" which is not what I'm looking for. This is probably due to the heart of the reed not having to much material in comparison to the Leuthners. I also tried the reeds with a few different ligatures: Rovner MkII, Vandoren Klassik and my current GF System. I felt the same on all three ligatures that the tone was too "reedy". I might find a difference on a different mouthpiece so I will try on my Bay and a Vandoren, though I doubt my feelings will change.

It's just my two cents worth.
