Reading around, this is probably not a "good" mouthpiece, but I was wondering if anyone knows what this is and/or has comments on this mouthpiece i came across.
It's a brand-new buffet mouthpiece, came wrapped in plastic. All it has it Buffet's logo, which says "Buffet Crampon & Cie, A.Paris" on it.

It isn't very popular, usually they are fill in from lower models that go unused.
Just make sure you are getting a REAL one. There are hundreds of ads on ebay and other sites for fake Buffet mouthpieces. Only buy if it is from a known source.

Most new ones are plastic.
May be used as a spare for a marching band??
Older ones (prior to 1970s) with 3 lower ligature lines, usually marked C facing, sometimes with a crown are fine quality hard rubber and can be refaced to decent quality.

I've seen that particular plastic mouthpiece referred to as a "doorstop" on this BB.
As a mouthpiece refacer I have nothing against plastic mouthpieces, as they can in fact be made to play quite well, but many of them have molding flash and/or other internal flaws that need to be massaged, and the extra work involved is usually not worth the effort. As I recall the Buffet plastic mouthpieces are not very nicely molded inside.

Thanks for the responses - it was actually free, so I gave it a try. It actually sounded surprisingly well with my vandoren trad. 3's, but altissimo was basically non-existent with this mouthpiece. The notes were there, but lacked character or any sense of "good tone" (at least with my style of playing). I quickly reverted back to the Forbes Debut mpc that's gotten me a long way. I guess I'll keep this Buffet for any emergency purposes, but I'd rather not play on it.

I'm happy to say that I've gotten to the point, personally, where I can play on almost any mouthpiece. But that does not mean every mouthpiece lets me play very well throughout the range and with the ease that I want.
Perhaps you're at a point where you can play most any mouthpiece, and are now able to really just differentiate the ease, tone, etc. etc. from mouthpiece to mouthpiece. Heck, I think it's about time for a mouthpiece search! Check out some stuff. The debut is good, but other mouthpieces (including the higher end Fobes) will probably be able to give you more depth to the sound and be a little easier to control small nuances.
