I have an overbite and play double lip. I play a Vandoren B45 mouthpiece, with an "88"beak, which I like very much. However, to get my lower lip to the "sweet spot " I have to jut my lower jaw forward considerably, and it is very tiring and sometimes painful. Might a mouthpiece with a shorter facing be more comfortable? If so, what you recommend?

It might. Vandoren's 5RV is pretty narrow. And the "M" series is on the short side, too.
Instead of pushing your jaw forward, why not try to take more mouthpiece on the top? Or maybe change the angle of the clarinet??

I'll second the suggestion to try changing the angle of the clarinet. Bringing the angle closer to you will tend to move your lower lip farther down the reed and the reed closer to your lower jaw without taking more beak or jutting forward so much.
As to whether or not a shorter facing curve would help, the only real way to know is to try it.

Well, the "88" beak is smaller in size between the reed and the tooth contact point. Maybe a non-88 would be easier for you?

Good point. The 88 usually promotes a more forward angle to the instrument.

I second Sky and Karl, change the angle and or try some other MPs and see where that goes. Vandoren alone makes many different quality mouthpieces. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com
