 Trial Policies

I am trying to purchase some of Fobes's mouthpieces on a trial basis but both WWBW and Muncy Winds require full purchases of all the merchandise, which would not be a prefered method. Is anyone aware of an online music store where I would be able to provide credit card information and recieve a certain amount of mouthpieces without paying for all of them?

I think most of the major outlets I've dealt with have a trial policy that amounts to a limited return policy - the merchandise is charged to your credit card and then the charge is reversed (credited back) for anything you send back within the terms of the policy. You have no cash committed unless you damage or fail to return the merchandise. WW&BW, Fred Weiner and, I believe, Muncy Winds all have some form or other of such a policy. I'm sure it's true of other online retailers - those are just the three that I normally buy from.

I think they actually only put the cost of one MP plus shipping on your credit card and will send you 3 or 4 to try. Most will do the same with barrels too. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

They are great folks. I have used them recently on a couple of trials and they were terrific. Their policies were more liberal and less costly. Call them to see. They do carry Clark's products.

I have not tried mouthpieces in awhile, but I know when I get them for trial at WWBW, they charge me for one mouthpiece for every four that I get- I think there police is 25% per mouthpiece (or was).
Weiner has THE WORST mouthpiece trial policy. They bang you for shipping when you return the mouthpieces, even if you keep merchandise that exceeds the required purchase amount for free shipping. Last time I purchased $500 worth of merchandise, returned $150, and they banged me for shipping on the original order because I returned $150 worth the merchandise. That was the end of my dealings with Weiner. Another thing-If you do order from Weiner, you will have to hound them to remove the charges for the returned merchandise from your credit card. THey wont do it on their own, you have to follow up with them to get them to give you a refund. THis is not a stated policy of Weiner, this is just the way it is.

My experience with Muncy Winds (and my student's experience recently) is that they usually charge you for the most expensive item on the CC, not all of the items.

Their policy may have changed, but if you call them (and most likely speak with Pam) you may be able to work something out.

No store that I know of allows you to send for the items without charging you for at least part of the order. Haven't tried Wright Music suggested above however.

As all stores seem to have different policies regarding this issue, please find Howarths of London's trial policy for mouthpieces below:

If the trial is to take place in the UK, we charge only for postage and insurance (£6.50) and you may borrow up to 4 items (sometimes more by negotiation) for up to 14 days.

If the trial is to take place outside of the UK, we require full payment for all items up front. If the items are returned to us, or postmarked within 14 days of purchase, we will refund everything except postage costs.

For college/conservatoire department teachers who wish to trial many items at once, you are requested to contact the store directly.

For no trial do we charge a re-stocking fee.
