You know I was looking up info on Manasse after hearing an AMAZING recording of Mozart the other day. Turns out the recording I heard was with Gerard Schwartz. During the research I caught some bad reviews of the one you seek. Apparently, the European orchestra on that album was either ill prepared, incompetant or both. Life's too short for such nonsense. Get his Mozart Concerto recorded here in the States!

I’m in no position to criticize a player of Manasse’s talent, but FWIW I found that CD to be very bland. I was excited to check out this CD after hearing so many positive things regarding his playing, but this CD appears to not be a good example. Unfortunately, the CDs I heard the most about are hard to come by.

See, that's what I'm saying !!!!
Manasse is one of the best of the best. And the Mozart with the Seattle Symphony stopped me in my tracks........truly the best rendition I have ever heard.

Frank, Paul, I completely agree. I have this album and you can tell that Manasse is taking no chances, not pushing the envelope and (probably) not feeling truly comfortable in the performance.

Is it at least worth a listen?
I've liked many of his recordings, so I wanted to see how he takes on Nielsen/Copland

Everything that I have heard from this guy is great playing. And I am picky. So not sure what the nay sayers are coming from. His Weber recordings are the best of anything out there. And his Nielsen is very impressive esp with regard to articulation. Maybe I need my hearing checked.

I also have the CD. It's the only recording I've heard of Mr Manasse. The orchestral playing is really terrible on this album. Manasse's playing is good, but nothing special. This CD was probably done on a low budget- cheap orchestra, little recording time. A sad example of the current state of classical music recording under adverse conditions.
I'll reserve my judgement on Jon Manasse. So many people rave about him, so he surely is better than this album shows him up to be. But I wouldn't recommend this CD.

Hello Dileep,
I believe that Manasse's playing on this album is beyond reproach, but I don't think that it is representative of his creativity.
Every four or five years or so Manasse performs here in Ch'ville, and he is fantastic.
