 Great Concert

There's a live recording of a very fine concert at http://liveweb.arte.tv/fr/video/Thomas_Quasthoff_chante_Mahler/1672/, Thomas Quastoff singing Mahler's Kindertotenlieder with the Dresden Staatskapelle conducted by Zubin Mehta, plus Webern's Six Pieces for Orchestra and Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra.

There's not a lot of clarinet work in the Mahler, but there's some in the Webern and a good bit in the Strauss. The sound and camerawork are great, with lots of closups of individual players in one of the world's great orchestras, which we don't see very often. Unlike Vienna, the DS has quite a few women, including the flute and oboe principals.

The trumpets have some interesting extra keys which open vents in the main tubing. The players use them like "flick" keys on the bassoon to begin high notes securely.
