I'm curious if you've tried a custom barrel for your Yammy CSG and what you think of it. Whose is it, what type, what kind of improvement? thx (Am enjoying my CSG/ Silver plated keys, but still can't give up my R-13).

As much as I criticize the Buffet R13 for all the crazy pitch (and quality assembly) problems of late, it still is a decent horn. No reason to throw it out. You can always get use out of it down the road.
As for the CSG question, I use a Dr. Alan Segal "fatboy" style (ringless barrel). I sort of back ended into it with a mention of its existence through this board. I was (in a addition to Buffet) never a big fan of "Frankenstein Monster Clarinets" using "SO AND SOs" barrel and "SO-AND SOs" bell and "SO-AND-SOs" whatever. If a clarinet is designed to a certain degree of care, you'd think it should probably work well that way. HOWEVER, I keep going back to this barrel that I bought on a whim because it lends a bit more woodiness or resonance to the sound. I cannot say for sure that this is audible to anyone else, but since I find the sound attractive, I believe that it helps me at least "feel better" about my playing.
Let's not get too worked up about different configurations of bore either. With a 54mm overall length, I severely doubt much is going on in the bore of these midgets.

Barrels play a big part in fine tuning your clarinets along with sound and resistance. Usually something most people, other than clarinetist can't hear and feel the differences. What is important is you as the player feeling comfortable with playing. So if it means a new horn, new barrels, change of reed brands, needless to say, mouthpieces, having a great tech to put the horn in excellent condition, and even assorted bells can make a difference in feeling comfortable in playing.
When you feel good playing it's pretty exciting because when everything connects right, practicing is a blast, performing is great, and your confidence goes over the richter scale. If trying out barrels, or whatever you want to do to play better, go for it.

Not planning to ditch my R-13 as it is a good sounding , playing, responsive horn too.
