 Fabulous Cannonball student clarinet

I just came from Sam Ash and have to say that I have just played the finest student clarinet of my 45 years of clarinet playing. I gagged when they told me the price was $550. The new Cannonball student clarinet, with its cool, ergonomic (if that's the word) register key was extraordinarily warm and very focused for a resin clarinet. It looked like it had silver-plate keys but I can't be sure what the metal is. It sure didn't look like nickel. The keywork is exceptional. This clarinet puts the Selmer Bliss clarinet to shame. I'm a middle school band director and feel like I've found a resin clarinet that sounds every bit as good as a wood clarinet. For students and families on a budget, this clarinet is a Godsend.

There has actually been a fair amount of discussion regarding Cannonball clarinets in the past. Use the search function to search on "Cannonball clarinet" without the quotes to see what others have had to say about them.

Best regards,
jnk

Here's a review of these clarinets. At the bottom there are some mp3s of the different models. I guess my ears are old, because they all sound the same to me.

A year ago I tried all three models from Cannonball. I didn't like any of them at all. One thing I especially didn't like was the "ergonomic" register key... which was the most uncomfortable I've tried.

The only thing I didn't mention is that I tried it using my Gigliotti mouthpiece, which could have accounted for a big boost in quality. I did not try the stock mouthpiece, which could make a big difference.

I thought the saxophones were much better, I liked some of them actually.

Re the mouthpieces, I haven't tried the stock Cannonball mouthpieces.
