Looking for pieces by living Japanese composers
Author: Tom Piercy
Date:   2010-02-09 13:21

Hello,

For a series of concerts next season in Japan, I am looking for pieces by living Japanese composers.

Instrumentation should be clarinet with any/all of the following:
soprano, violin, cello, shakuhachi, piano.

Solo clarinet pieces are also welcome.

Any composer names or information on pieces would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Tom Piercy

The Japanese composers I am primarily familiar with (Toru Takemitsu, Akira Ikufube, and Fumio Hayasaka) are all deceased.

However, you might try this resource:

Check out Takahashi Yoshimatsu's "Four Pieces in Bird Shape" for clarinet and piano. Very exciting and effective work.

Thanks for the info so far.

Hi Skygardener,
Thanks for the links. Done all that, and am a member of JCS.
DO you have any specific recommendations of pieces you're heard or played?

Keep the suggestions coming.
Thanks,

Tom Piercy
