Hello all -
The West Point Band recently released a recording of Dana Wilson's Liquid Ebony, which is available for free download from the band's website:

For those not familiar with it, the piece was written for Larry Combs and premiered at the 2003 ClarinetFest in Salt Lake City. The West Point Band commissioned the band transcription in 2006, and the recording was done in March, 2009 at the Lycian Center in Sugarloaf, NY.

John gave me a copy of the performance; its a great performance. John was too modest to say he is the one performing it, and, he performed it on a Backun Legacy Bb that he later sold to me. When my 8 year old daughter heard the performance (she too plays clarinet), she said: "Daddy, the clarinet doesn't sound anything like when you play it." Kids' honesty is brutal. BTW, here is a link to a video of another performance of the final movement of the piece (along with a movement from Lutoslawski's Dance Preludes, by Jeff Anderle, of Sqwonk and Edmund Welles bass clarinet fame:

Gotta love kids and their forthright way of telling t like it is.
What a beautiful recording.
