 ID Japanese(?) clarinet

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone knows the name of the company that makes the clarinet in the photo. I think it is made in Japan but can't say for sure I remember.

Thanks

The keywork looks very oboe-like with the pointed key arms extending all the way across the pad cups http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/download.html/1,2054/made_in_japan_cls.JPG so with oboes in mind and the shape of the logo, could they be made by Josef? http://www.josef-oboe.com/index/home.htm They're not listed on their site (only oboes from what I can see), so maybe prototypes of a semi-reform Boehm system.

Former oboe finisher
Howarth of London
1998 - 2010

The opinions I express are my own.

Yes, it is made by Musik Josef.
I read an article about this clarinet in a music magazine in summer last year. This is their first clarinet production line, AFAIK.
I had a chance to try it at the 2009 Instrument Fest in Yokohama last year. It was a beautifully made instrument, very clear sound and the emission was very free and balanced. As far as "oboe like" keys, I notice that the pillars on the RH were a little higher than Buffet, and I found myself curving my fingers a little more than usual- more like oboe players do.
All the tenon sockets are metal lined and the connection from the barrel to the top joint is double walled metal. So when you pull out for tuning there isn't any gap between in the bore.
The price was about 700,000JPY as I recall- might have been a bit less.

At current exchange rates, that's an expensive clarinet (at least in US Dollars)!

Yes thanks it's Josef. I forgot to check what the company was when I tried them.
