Would appreciate advice from anybody on a problem I'm having -- I've been learning to play for the past two months on a Vito clarinet which has a plastic mouthpiece and I've wanted to put a rubber mouthpiece on it. So I've tried a Vandoren B45 and a Vandoren 5RV Lyre, and I get a whistling air sound with both of them. I don't hear this when I use the plastic mouthpiece. What am I doing wrong? Is my embouchure incorrect?

You are probably using a reed of improper strength. Different mouthpieces require different reeds. What brqand and strength of reed are you using?
Really, the best way to attempt to upgrade a mouthpiece is to do this under the guidance of a good teacher.

And by using a teacher you learn and progress so much faster that once you've tried it, you wonder why everyone doesn't use music instructors more.

i had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, when i got a vandoren b45-i bought a new reed with less strentgh, which allowed me to play without the whistling noise, i have since gone back to the old strength reeds , and i sound fine.
