 A Little More Harpo
Author: Philcoman

A while back someone posted a clip of Harpo playing clarinet in "Animal Crackers." Here's a somewhat more rare taste of harpo's clarinet for you Marx Brothers fans!

Pretty good. Harpo does the Hold That Tiger lick pretty damn well, as well as miming a snort of cocaine.

I'm assuming he actually played those. Makes me wanna do a similar bubbly trick! :)

And to reference another thread, Milton says that he didn't realize that Harpo played "a clarinet" and then asks how long he's been playing "the clarinet."

I'm ASSUMING the clarinet playing was real and the snorting was mime... :-)

I thought it was Harpo playing, but later he blows bubbles from the clarinet bell as Uncle Miltie sings. How could a playable clarinet also contain the apparatus hidden in the lower joint to produce those bubbles as the instrument is elevated to release the soapy liquid?? Perhaps, only Billy Mays really knows..........nonetheless, great comic sketch. Too bad they don't make 'um like they used too, huh??

I'm not sure how he did it, but after multiple viewings I'm convinced Harpo was really playing. But there was definitely something installed in the bell.

The Feb 1991 issue of "The Clarinthet" has him on the cover and an article about him and the clarinet.
