I know there's a lot on this already that's been discussed, but I feel that my old Rovner Dark that I've played doesn't really cut it any more. My sound/tone is really inflexible and staccatos doesn't feel as crisp as it could. I asked my teacher about it, and she said I might like the BG Super Revelation, or maybe a Vandoren Optimum. However, we couldn't talk for long as she had to leave. What are the different characteristics of these different ligs? And with the BG, is there much of a difference between brass, silver and gold?
Oh, and I know ligatures depend on mouthpiece and reed preference. I play an M30 with 3.5 Rico Reserves.
And, I'm headed to the Boston Conservatory Clarinet Day this weekend with the clarinet studio of the university I'm probably going to next year. What can I expect from it? I've never been, and I don't really know anything about it! Might I be able to try out some ligatures there?
