I am thinking about getting a jupiter clarinet and I was wondering what the difference is between the series like the CXL concert or academic or just the regular instruments. I was thinking of getting the Jupiter 931s and was wondering if it was good instrument? Also how do they compare to the other Jupiter models like the CC-700? Is it a good company to pick from or does it not compare to Yamaha or Buffet? I just saw the Jupiter at the store and immediately fell in love with it.

Please help, thanks!

Generally, Jupiter is a brand to stay away from. Unless someone has had a good experience (I have never heard anyone say they have on this board, or anywhere else for that matter).

Do a search on this board for Beginner instruments and you'll find many different threads on this subject with helpful advice. Generally, Yamaha, Buffet, Leblanc are all superior companies to Jupiter.

Firstly Jupiter is a subsidary of Yamaha. I have students that use these as the school bought a few a couple of years back. They are robust for students and are generally pretty good for the beginner. I wouldn't knock it untill you've tried it.

Definitely a student model instrument, and better than it once was. If it's a new Jupiter it should be as good as a basic Bundy/Vito or even a Buffet B12 (which are not Buffet's best instruments).

8-9 years ago the Jupiters were cheap poorly made instruments but that has most definitely changed.

My repair tech would agree that the jupiters for years back were aweful, but he is really impressed with the newer Jupiter Instruments.
