I know that both of the giants knew many of the same fellow giants such as Ralph McLane, Daniel Bonade, but were these men friendly rivals?

They were big egos and intense competitors with the need to beat one another out to make a living. (Perhaps Weber's ego was bigger, but I'm a friend of Kal's, so I'm not objective.)

Probably just like many of us. C'mon, now admit--don't you try to play a little bit faster and higher--or especially *better*--when you know a fellow clarinetist is listening?? Personally, I have never met a clarinet player that I didn't like.....to beat. Peace, ya'll :>)

Mr. Opperman has an ability to instill in you confidence at the same time while teaching you how to play the clarinet correctly.

I met Kal Opperman (while still a student of Harold Wright) and he was very gracious to me. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things clarinet and could really play! I never met David Weber but have heard many nice things about him as well. Either way, both great players and pedagogues.
