 Guess whose coming to dinner?

This week Julian Bliss (brilliant young British Clarinetist) will be giving a Master class. Three of my students have been selected to take part; in fact they are the only three in a two hour session. As you can imagine I am quite excited about this. I regard Julian as one of the most musical as well as technically developed players of the current generation.
The players in the Mater class are very talented young people. I believe some of them will become prominent players. The works that will be played are; Rossini variations, Weber Concerto No2 first movement and Harvey Gershwin themes.
I will report back on Julian’s insights and advice.

All the best,
Chris Ondaatje

Chris

Congratulations to your students, and to you. They are obviously well taught!

im playing my australian youth orchestra excerpts for him at tomorrows workshop at my old school :p this is during the day, not his recital at night. should be a fantastic opportunity, australia rarely gets great international soloists.

Thanks Marcia,

I appreciate the compliment. The success (or otherwise) of students is quite a complex matter. I shouldn't take too much credit.

I will try to report back honestly.. If there are flaws in technical aspects of my teaching I will let you know.

All the best,
Chris.

As a general interest, any chance a video will be made and put online to watch?

The video is a great idea. I will see tomorrow. It might be a bit too late to organize though.

hey all! had the masterclass with Julian today, all went very well. we ended up playing through my own choice piece which was the mozart first mvt and he has such a great insight into phrasing and articulation (probably credited to his years of study with sabine meyer). I did manage to record some low quality audio, but no video im afraid. unsure of how to best upload these audio recordings too.

Just a general comment to squash any rumours about Julian and his playing, some believe that he is arrogant and snobbish which cannot be further from the truth! he is very humble and attributes his success to a very lucky series of opportunities from a young age. Hes probably the nicest guy youll ever meet!

Also, let me know if u know of a good way for me to upload the recordings i made of him playing.

Cheers,

2E.

Please post anything to YouTube that you can.

It would be great to see what took place.

Should be easy to do.
