Vandoren 5RV is a good starting point, but try out as many as you can.

I love my Fobes. I have also heard good things about those made by Smith, Grabner, Redwine, among others.

I use a vandoren B44, but have heard great things about both the 5RV and the Lomax Eb mouthpieces. I don't prefer the lomax Bb\A mouthpieces as much, but the Eb mpcs sound fantastic.

I love the Smith, Fobes and Grabner mouthpieces for Eefer. right now the Smith is my favorite but all are outstanding in giving nice tone. Also consider the Fobes Eefer extension. it is really worth the $$ as your intonation is improved throughout the horn.

As always, you have to find what's good for you, not for someone else. I suggest you call some of the major mail order stores and ask them to send you four different ones so you can try them. Everyone likes to recommend what they like, but they're not you. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

I, too, have been playing on Backun mouthpieces. I have been using them exclusively for all of my clarinets (Eb sop. down to basset horn). I find that on the eefer especially, the Backun mouthpiece is excellent. In combination with a Backun Eb barrel cut to receive Bb reeds, it is so easy to control the pitch in the altissimo and blend seamlessly with an ensemble. And when necessary the clarinet can be as sassy as required, without being harsh. I also use a Backun bell with a voicing groove and resonance hole. The clarinet itself is a mid-70's Buffet R-13 that was restored by Morrie for me. I also have a Patricola rosewood eefer that Morrie did for me. It seems to play better for me with the same Backun mouthpiece, but using a standard Backun Eb barrel and bell. The Backun mouthpiece really helps keep the pitch under control without a lot of oral gymnastics.
