Lost! 90 percent of my musical library!
Author: JamesOrlandoGarcia

I recently moved to a new apartment here in Chicago and I cannot locate two boxes worth of music which had most of my chamber/solo and orchestral parts in them. I can't even begin to fathom the thousands of dollars worth of music that has been lost! I would have been better off to have lost one of my r-13s instead. Music is so expensive!

What a rotten thing to have happen! I hope the boxes turn up somewhere and you and your music are reunited.

True Bummer--I hope you find your box. Gone are the days (1962) when I could go downtown and buy a copy of the Poulenc Sonata for $1.75. Prices these days are so "out of whack" with musicians means...........

James,

Sorry to hear about the loss. All your music, with notes on phrasing, breath marks, and fingering suggestions. If you have to buy the music again, may I suggest Schott or Bärenreiter.

They use paper that is a higher quality than the American and especially the French music publisher. Also they use music notation software such as Sibileus or Finale, so all the music sits crisply on the page with careful consideration for page turns.

Whatever you do don't buy International Music Co. (IMC). They have been photocopying the same music with the same mistakes for decades. Also they set the notes so densely on the page that sight-reading becomes a challenge. Many of the French publishers like Durand, also have photocopied music over and over so that the notes are hard to read. Also they print on low quality paper that doesn't last long.

I can't wait until they come out with a Kindle for sheet music. One where you can add notes. Perhaps you can wait for that.

Bartmann,

They have it. But it's HELLA expensive.

Search for "Music Pad Pro". Seen it in use (Pershing's Own Brass Quintet) and it works really well, but it certainly is a lot of money.

There are very few things which make me tech-envious, but the Music Pad Pro is one...

You might want to check if the movers you used had any complaints filed against them, my husband and I used some really inefficient and expensive movers and we think they stole some of our stuff. Craigslist may have rants about certain movers, and I wrote to one TV station that hosts a consumer education show about how people have had complaints with certain moving companies.

Other thing is possibly another client ended up with those boxes. Check all your boxes and possibly you have one of theirs.

Some family members of mine ended up with somebody's (priceless) family photographs in a move!! (were returned)

Nothing as serious, but when we sold our piano we were really busy when the movers came. Piano books and the kid's workbook projects were in the piano bench. Fortunately it was a 10-minute drive to pick them up from the new owners.

Hope you eventually find all your music!!
