I am curious to know why Orsi & Weir clarinets are now Taplin-Weir. A new student brought an Orsi & Weir to a lesson. Very, very nice

Hello All - Orsi & Weir became Taplin-Weir at the beginning of '09. Our colaborators at Orsi had suggested they might sell their business name at some point. Rather than have a future conflict with the name we decided to make a change now. Taplin is a part of Patti's family name. We also are moving toward manufacturing the complete clarinets in Canada (Orsi had been fabricating the wood bodies to our specifications). Our clarinets continue to evolve and we have a group of new clarinet design ideas currently in the works. Thank you for asking......John Weir

I spent a little too much time playing his clarinet rather than teaching.
I think it is a terrific instrument.

I think they're very fine instruments also, even though I don't own one.
(I'm at "terminal clarinet status" now.)
John Weir is also a great guy. Very helpful, very communicative.

John is a great guy.
Taplin-Weir products are very high quality, too. I drooled over some of their clarinets and barrels at the Oklahoma Symposium the past several years.
