I first listened to this when I was a kid - quite a few decades ago. It is on a Bix Beiderbecke compilation LP (long playing record, for you Gen Xrs) bought in the 60s. I think it cost 59 bob back then.

It's a notable group of musos and Bix's lead is particularly good.

I was lucky to find two of his old records at my local library that they had converted into cd. They know live nicely on my computer hard drive as well. :D As well as two from Artie Shaw.

Holy cow! Goodman, Krupa, Dorsey brothers, Teagarden, Beiderbeck et al.
It's like the angelic chorus -- or is it the other place?

Am I wrong to think Real Player on a Mac is not a good idea?

Ah, I seem to recall a childhood parody on Barnacle Bill!

Try listening to some old Benny on YouTube from 1928...!

Same vintage as "Barnacle Bill..." also some nice other old treats.

Enjoy!

I run a Mac and there's no problem. If you hit the selected track on the Red Hot Jazz site, Real Player will pop up the message ''Configure your system now?'' to which you should hit the ''later'' response. A further message asking permission to ''......add agent'' should also be ignored by hitting the ''ask me later'' response.

Works fine after that.........I'm listening to Red Allen and Coleman Hawkins as I write, actually.

If ever there was a recording made when everyone in the band was dead drunk, it's Barnacle Bill. BG may have been sober, but nobody could sing that way without being smashed. It's exactly what the song needs -- really dirty without the dirty words.
