I got 26 out of 26, but I have to admit that I kind of liked a few of the distorted tunes...sort of like listening to the Arnold Schoenberg arrangement.

fun! It's like name that tune... or name that almost-tune.
given the preponderance of musicians (especially those silly clarinetists) on this bboard, I would think that most of us will do well above average. I'd be interested to see how "tone-deaf" people perform on this test.

26/26 for me too.
Kinda reminds me when I moved out to Canada, and the N.American variants on some nursery rhymes threw me - same words, but different tune.
Couple of examples are "She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain" and "Sing A Song Of Sixpence" - the UK and US versions are different, though both versions of "She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain" start off in the same way but change from the second phrase onwards.

26/26. I didn't think it was all that hard. The version of "Star Spangled Banner" was actually more spot on than the way some of those yodeling water buffaloes perform it at sporting events.

David, I ran the whole thing on a 6+ year old Dell. It should run if you have Windoze Media Player or Quicktime. Both are supposed to work with the files.

I could play it, fine and my pc has a sticker on the front that says "designed for Windows 2000"!!
Some of these sounded like they might be Prokofiev.

Some of the wrongly-played ones were really hard to distinguish! I think the one I was most confused about was the Battle Hymn of the Republic....took me a while to figure out what it was supposed to be! 26/26 though here...

For some reason works with FireFox but not IE. I think since I installed IE8 I have some problems but I'm not sure.
I don't think I know most songs. I recognized some of them. I didn't actually check how much I got "right", but I liked tune 1 and tune 20. I assume they are "wrong" in this test, but their "wrongness" (is that a word?) is actually not really wrong (if you don't know the song). I assume the b6maj of tune 20 is "wrong", but it's very common and this melody sounds especially a lot like some animation shows music and some rock music (but also many other types). Tune 1 could be 2maj which is also common in some rock/pop music (also many other styles) or even more dramatic #4min (also common in a lot of types of music). So basically I thought these "mistakes" sounded very good

Clarnibass, the tunes are known to people who would be familiar with tunes they heard growing up in the US as kids; many are simple childhood songs or partiotic songs. That might explain why they aren't familiar to you.
