Anyone have any favorites? I'm looking for some music for a summer
concert. The strings are doing their chamber stuff and we need to showcase
the winds for the 2nd half. Thanks for any suggestions.

Only double quintet that I know and have played is by Emile Bernard (sp?).
Also, while not quite a double quintet, the Gounod Petite Sinfonie (1 fl, double ww) is done for situations that you are describing.

Enescu -- Dixtour
Milhaud -- Little Symphony #5 "Dixtour for wind instruments".
I don't know if these fine works are still in print. When I played the Enescu we found a set of parts in the Washington DC Martin Luther King Library.

I have a publication "Seascape" by Ruth Gipps published 1961 by Sam Fox Co NY. It is dedicated to the Portia Wind Ensemble which I recall from the 1950/60's as a group made up of the leading UK professional female players of that time (including Thea King and Georgina Dobree on clarinets).
According to my scribing on the cover I purchased this in May 1983 in Raleigh NC but sadly it has remained unplayed to this day so can't comment on its quality.
It uses Engish Horn in lieu of oboe 2 and the clarinets are in A.
Score and parts back then cost a whole $5!!

harp and english horn?

Though I haven't played the double wind quintet version, I have played his clarinet choir version and found that he gave every player a juicy part and assumes everybody can play well (nothing boring for the bassoons or horns/low clarinets).

I am John Gibson, the arranger of the Brahms Serenade #2 that clockhorse mentioned. Just wanted to note that this is actually for a double wind quintet plus a contra-bassoon (11 instruments). Brahms wrote the original serenade for doubled winds and strings minus the violins, so he emphasized the lower notes available. I played the 11 winds version with the Oregon Chamber Players in Portland, Oregon earlier this year and it went very well. Just watch that spelling there folks: dixtuor.
I suppose it doesn't matter too much in this situation but when you swap the u and o in a 'sextuor' it makes people think Poulenc had a habit of going on naughty holidays.
(Which he probably did judging from what I've heard but as far as I know it's not what the piece is about...)

I've played both Arthur Bird pieces listed on the Tim Reynish site above (the Serenade and the Suite in D) and they're both wonderful pieces of music. I think the Bird Serenade may be one of my favorite chamber pieces I've ever played.
There's also a Tanayev piece written for double quintet, but I don't know how you'd go about getting it. I know that when I played it we were reading off of copies of hand written parts, so I doubt you'd be able to find a copy.
If you pick up two extra horns and a string bass you could do the Strauss Serenade.
