 Protech Bass Clarinet Case Straps
Author: Hank Lehrer

Hi Everyone,

I have just gotten a Protec case of my one-piece bass and really like it. While it took a little thought to get the internal case blocks positioned correctly I overcame that pretty quickly.

But the thing I can't figure out is the outside strap configuration. The shoulder strap arrangement was easy to solve. Straight forward, snap the strap on to the ring, carry the case like a shoulder bag.

But there are two diagonal strap guides on the case, one of the front and the other on the back. I can't see how they are used. It looks like the shoulder strap can be passed though them but there is only one strap ring on the front bottom edge.

Anyone have experience with this case? I must be missing something obvious here.

They allow the case to be carried like a backpack. The straps are sold separately.

Hi Ben,

I looked at the Protec website and located a video on installing the back pack straps but the bass clarinet case does not seem to have a central attach point for any strap they sell. I must be missing something.

Do you have first-hand experience with this case and the back pack strap? Anyone else have experience?

My case has the two diagonal strap nooses on the sides, and one in the middle of the underside, at the opposite end of the side guides (ie you can't see it while the case is open).
I Can make a photo tonight if you want.

Hi Ben,

I found it but it was not as expected so that was the problem. It looks like all I need to do is order the MXBPSTRAP which is 1/2 the price of the one with an attach point snap.

The upper loop (on the underside as you indicted) appears to just slip through and opening and then is held in place with Velcro.

Thanks again.

I like the Tom Bihn "Absolute Strap" - pricey maybe but very comfortable:

{I have no financial interest in this company).
