 Buffet Bass Clarinet Question
Author: clari-hack

Hello...

I have an older, early 1950's Buffet Bass Clarinet, keyed to low e flat. Will the modern day prestige neck fit this instrument?

Steve

I doubt it. Even if the tenon fits the socket, the top register mechanism is completely different.

I have an older Buffet bass (1960s), which I think has a better sound than the new models. Make the best of what you've got, or pay some outrageous price to Charlie Bay, who makes necks for your model.

Okay. Thanks.

I have a 50's Buffet Bass Clarinet. I DO have the original neck which is a one piece neck (no tuning option). I have been borrowing a friend's neck from a similar vintage Buffet that is a two piece and it offers a lot more flexibility when it comes to tuning.

You would probably have to try it or contact the Buffet company to find out for sure but my guess would be no. I play an older Selmer and I know the newer necks won't fit because the register key works differently on the new ones. Besides, it probably won't play in tune since it's probably a different size. At least that's my feeling. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

If you do get the crook off eBay, you might be able to swap the tenons over (unsolder the tenons, switch them over and solder them in place) so it fits on your bass.
