 Is this a crack?
Author: Kent12

I just received an Evette & Schaeffer clarinet, but I'm relatively new to this instrument. When inspecting it, I noticed a ?crack? at the bottom of the upper body. But is it a crack, or is it supposed to be there?

Ok... I'm not sure of technical terms but..... I think what you are looking at that you believe is a crack is a kind of trench where a particular spring sits. If you look at the the keys right above it, not the one that arches over the "crack/trench", and press down, you will see the spring move with the key.

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm not an expert on clarinets.

What I'm referring to (sorry for bad descriptions): It sort of starts at the bottom of the upper body, and goes up a little bit. There's like a plank of wood in the center of it.

Yes, I think you're right. When I pressed the key you referred to, the spring moved. Thanks for the help.

Not a problem. My pleasure. Good luck with your new horn.
