 Switching reed suppliers

Hello all

The time has come again to buy boxes of reeds. I live in the UK and for a while now I have used dawkes.co.uk, finding them to be very speedy with free delivery.

However, my checkout today (I have not paid yet) consisted of

1 box 10 Vandoren V12, Bb
1 box 10 Vandoren, Eb
1 box 5 Vandoren, Bass

With free delivery the price comes to £48.44 (About 70USD?)

Fair enough, but £48.44 surpasses my weekly part time wage (I'm a full time student (Not of music) with little spare change!) call me mean but I would just like to double check if I can get a better deal somewhere else.

I have used 1stopclarinet in the past for more difficult stuff to come by. Their prices are a cheaper but unfortunately shipping to the UK is not calculated by weight, but by price band. So the price works out about the same.

I realize that I am only paying £2 a reed, I also recognise that this could be the standard price to pay. I suppose it coming all at once instead of the single box here or there just makes it a bigger pill to swallow. If so, just tell me and I'll leave it at that. I'm just double checking that there's not some kind of bargain haven I'm missing out on.

Also I hear good things about Legere Bass reeds, that they are more reliable, less prone to squeaks and long lasting- sound good! Any thoughts? I have a bog standard Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and rovner dark ligature.

Edit - I just found some posts on the Legere reeds, and yes they do sound good.

Try Reeds Direct in Cambridge, google it and it'll come up. You save money if you buy 5 boxes or more and it's free postage and next day delivery if you order before a certain time. The last time I used them I bought 5 boxes of Vandoren (old stock, before the flow packaging) Traditional (blue box) and it came to roughly the price you mentioned in the your post.

Give it a try
