New Work for Bass Clarinet and String Quartet

Friends,

I am very happy to let you all know about an incredible addition to the chamber music repertoire for bass clarinet. I had the privilege to premiere this work last week. It is probably the most exciting premiere I've taken part in because of the uniqueness of the ensemble (few works written for Bsclar and qtet), and also the incredible attractiveness of this new composition.

"con slancio" for bass clarinet and string quartet by Justin Boyer.

The title means "with dash," or "with impetus."

The work is a 12 minute, one movement work. It calls for considerable facility on bass clarinet, and makes great use of the low notes in a sort of "tower of power baritone sax" type of way. The composer really wanted me to bring this out. He emphasized that he imagines the bass clarinet as a "super clarinet," with both its powerful low notes, but also with a singing soprano quality in the upper register. Boyer's style is imaginative. He blends a lot of popular or klezmer type elements into this piece.

I wanted to provide this mp3 so you can hear the piece, because I believe in this work and think a lot of people might want to play it. . This link has a download of a live performance from last week. The group is inscape chamber music project, the ensemble that commissioned the work.

Thanks

Congratulations on premiering a wonderful new piece!! Bt the way, I described my old Selmer as a "woodwen bari sax". I use a Buffet now that is less "beefy".

Is the work being published?

You sound ridiculous. Bravo!

Is the piece going to be published at some point in the near future?
