Clarinetists seem to be popular in NY Times recently
Author: clarmont

There's been a recent flury of great reviews and articles in the New York Times about clarinetists in the last month.

Hooray for the exposure.

The Co-Managing Editor (Jill) who picks features as well as the NYT Front Page stuff is my sister-in-law.

For real.....

But it's more likely that Clarinetists are just doing cool stuff! It can't just always be about Singers, Pianists, and Fiddle players.

Love the description of Paquito D'Rivera's sound: "gorgeous: strong but mellow and almost entirely free of squeaks." :)

Best regards,

I can't figure out if that's meant to be a compliment or a slap! Or maybe the reviewer thinks squeaks are ubiquitous among professionals after a previous exposure to the clarinet limited to listening to a grammar school band....
