 Buffet Greenline 1193 Bass Clarinet

Rumors and even some advertising are saying the long-awaited Buffet 1193 in Greenline is now available. Has anybody on the Bboard played this new product? If so could you share your impressions, particularly how it compares to the Prestige wood instrument?

Happy New Year.

I hope it has both a reinforced middle tenon and socket.

I bet it weighs a ton and a half.

But don't assume that because it is called Greenline it will have the same material recipe as the Bb Sop.

Dear BB members,
We have had one of the new model Greenline Bass Clarinets in our London showroom since the start of December 2008. Our initial reaction to the instrument is very favourable and in blind testing with both our customers and specialist staff there have been no obvious differences either tonally or mechanically. I'm sure as more instruments become available we will be able to see if there are any issues, but as we said, on first impressions, the instrument is very comparable to it's wooden cousin. Unfortunatly the instrument we have in the showroom is not available for sale yet, but any customer is more then welcome to come and try the instrument for themselves.

As for weight of the bass, the greenline weighs approx 3.6kg while the standard wooden model weighs approx 3.4kg.

If anyone would like anymore information regarding the instrument please just let us know.

Best Wishes,

So it's about a half a pound more for an instrument that big, which is already supported by a floor peg? Not too bad, IMO.

Are Greenline Bb and A clarinets heavier than their wooden cousins ? And if so why ?

The wood model already feels heavy (other good low C bass clarinets I've tried feel about the same though, nothing unique to that model). I guess for carrying it around and playing when sitting those extra 200g aren't that important, but when playing standing up.... I already wish my wood one was lighter! Most of my playing (other than practice) is standing. If I only sat I wouldn't mind if the instrument was even heavier, no big deal at all.
